Welcome to the Cardinal Heavy Athletic Club!

The Cardinal Heavy Athletic Club is focused on training Stanford-associated and non-associated community members in traditional sporting events of the Scottish Heavy Athletics. We welcome men and women across a range of weight and skill classes.

These heavy events such as putting stones, throwing hammers, throwing weights for distance and height, and turning the caber are our passion!

Cardinal Heavy Athletics competes at events all over Western North America. The throwing season begins in March and ends in October. Our throwers range in experience from beginner to, at one time, a three-time world champion. Most of our athletes compete in Northern California regional events hosted by the Scottish Heavy Athletics (SHA) and are ranked by the North American Scottish Games Athletics (NASGA).

Weather permitting, we practice at the Sand Hill Intramural Fields on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to sunset and Sunday afternoons--Tue and Thur are recommended extra days; we provide the throwing gear.

If you would like to throw,
